How do I know what I have checked out?

You can know what you have checked out by accessing your Library Account. You may do this online by entering your 16-digit EagleOne ID number and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number in the Library Account Login form in the center of the UMW Libraries home page. This will allow you to view everything that you have checked out or requested, find out when your checked out items are due, and see any fines or charges that you may have on your account. You may also come into the Libraries and present your EagleOne ID card at the Checkout or Circulation Desk, and we will look up your account for you and tell you what you have checked out.

How do I renew library materials?

Materials from the regular circulating collection may be renewed three times without returning them to UMW Libraries. Renewal may be done online by accessing your Library Account through the UMW Libraries website. You may also come into the Libraries and present your EagleOne ID card at the Checkout or Circulation Desk to have your items renewed. Materials may not be renewed until 7 days prior to their due date.

You may access your Library Account online by entering your 16-digit EagleOne ID number and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number in the Library Account Login form in the lower right column of the UMW Libraries home page. This will allow you to view everything that you have checked out, see when they are due, and select to renew them.

Materials that are needed past the third renewal due date may be checked out again, but must be brought to the Library for processing. Items that have been requested by another user cannot be renewed.

Materials on Course Reserve cannot be renewed, but may be checked out again providing no one else is waiting for the item.

Materials borrowed through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) must be renewed through the ILL system.

How do I return library materials?

Library materials can be returned at either of the UMW Libraries, regardless of where they were checked out.

When returning materials at Simpson Library, please bring them to the Checkout Desk. If you are returning materials at a time when Simpson Library is closed, please place materials in the book return slot located in the front wall of the building, to the far left of the main doors.

When returning materials at Stafford Campus Library, please bring them to the Circulation Desk during open hours. If the Library is closed, you can place materials in the book return slot at the end of the hallway on the second floor of the South Building, next to Room 218.

How do I pay fines?

Provided that your fines have not already been forwarded to Student Accounts, you may pay them at the Circulation Desk at Simpson Library or at Stafford Campus Library. You may pay fines with cash, EagleOne card, or with a check payable to “University of Mary Washington”.

How do I find out what happens if I damage or lose materials?

The minimum charge for a lost item is $75.  The $75 lost book charge will be refunded if the item is found and returned in good condition within 6 months of the billing date.  Lost electronic equipment replacement fees vary by item and are equal to the purchase costs.  Replacement copies of lost items or items damaged beyond repair will not be accepted in lieu of payment.

Charges for damaged items are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Underlining and highlighting text will result in damage fees. Also see our Collection Development Policy: Damaged, Destroyed Material for more information on how damage fines are assessed.

If you have any questions about your items that were lost or damaged, you can contact the Checkout Desk at Simpson Library at 540-654-1125 to find out how much you owe and why you were charged. Also see the Overview of Fines, Fees, and Loan Periods for more information on how fines are assessed.
