Construction Information

UMW’s new Information and Technology Convergence Center is being constructed next to Simpson Library. The new building will hold computer labs, study rooms, media production studios, and a digital auditorium, and it will be the new home of the Speaking Center, the Writing Center, the Information Technology department, and the IT Help Desk. The building is scheduled to open in Fall 2014.

The entrance to Simpson Library is unaffected by the closure of campus walk – you can enter the front of the library as you would normally. Access to the library from the north side of campus, such as Jepson Hall and the Anderson Center, does require a detour along College Avenue. You cannot travel through Simpson Library to get to the north side of campus. A detailed map of constitution detours is available here.

Noise levels due to construction are also a concern and every effort is being made to mitigate its impact, but at times sound levels within the library may be obtrusive.
