Retrieving Materials From the Stacks
Library staff will retrieve requested items from the stacks for those patrons who require assistance. Individuals with disabilities who need assistance obtaining materials from the stacks should contact the library staff at the Checkout or Circulation Desks. At Simpson Library, the Checkout Desk is located on the first floor just inside the main entrance doors to the left. The Circulation Desk at the Stafford Campus Library is located on the left just inside the entrance.
Every effort will be made to accommodate such requests as quickly as possible; however, staffing levels and other user requests may create short delays.
Staff at the Checkout or Circulation Desks will help individuals with disabilities photocopy library materials. Relevant copyright restrictions and normal photocopy charges are observed.
Group Study Rooms
Rooms intended for group study are located on the second and third floors of Simpson Library and are available to UMW students, faculty and staff.
Please see our website for information on reserving a study room. Study rooms can be reserved by visiting our Study Room Scheduler or by scanning a QR code at any of the available rooms. Assistance is available at the Circulation Desk on the first floor.
Assistive Technology Resources
A desktop computer equipped with a variety of assistive technology software is located at Simpson Library. This computer is available to all students requiring accommodations to access library materials and services. In order to maintain availability for students who require its software, the computer is login specific. Login information is provided to students who are registered with the Office of Disability Resources (ODR).
A Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Video Monitor is also located at the Simpson and Stafford Campus Libraries.
The assistive technology available to students with disabilities at the University of Mary Washington is listed within the Office of Disability Resources website. You may also contact them directly at 540-654-1266 for more information.
